FIRE

Fire is a movie written and directed by Deepa Mehta.  It's about two women that finds love from one another.  I watched this movie years ago and I loved it then and love it now.  Though the setting is in India and the story is based on the Hindu religion it didn't fail to speak to those who are not like me.  Though it may seem that lesbinanism maybe the theme of this movie, to me it was more about  the emotional evolution of humans, how we adapt to the challenges that face us.  The two women were deprived of intimacy, especially Rhada,  a married woman whom for thirteen years have not had anye intimate relations with her husband due to his committment to celibacy.  Sita is a young woman newly married to Jatin who loves someone else and spends his free time with her.  Ultimately,  Sita and Rhada found love from one another satisfying that very basic need of  every human being to be desired and accepted.  Rhada's character conveyed very clearly how a married woman if deprived of physical touch, becomes sad and lonely.  Though she wasn't happy she still did all her wifely duties which proves that we can survive physically but the spirit becomes dead.
I admire Rhada, because she gave her marriage a chance even with the circumstance she was under.  In the end , the universe then rewarded her sacrifice by finally aligning her with a person who can make her feel alive spiritually.
